Claims

"A mining claim is a parcel of land for which the claimant has asserted a right of possession and the right to develop and extract a discovered, valuable, mineral deposit."

SMPA holds ownership to nine different mining claims at four different locations in Trinity and Shasta Counties.  Members have 24/7 access to these claims.  They are located on BLM and USFS property, which allows camping on site up to 14 days.  The claims offer great opportunities for family outings, day trips or multiple day camp-outs.

Whiskey Nine Claim

Our newest claim is located only 14 miles from downtown Redding!  In 1851 the second largest gold nugget in Shasta County was found on this creek weighing a hefty 56 oz!  Just like our other claims, access is very easy and there is plenty of shade and cool water to enjoy in the hot summer days.

Trinity Placer Claim

Located on Rush Creek, 7 miles north of Lewiston in Trinity County, this gem of a location offers year round flowing water and plenty of shade for summertime enjoyment.  Easy access to the water for all ages.  There is plenty of room for tent and travel trailer camping right next to the creek.

Can Do Claim

Situated next to highway 299 in Trinity County, the Can Do Claim is a favorite amongst those who wish to pitch a tent, right next to where they mine.  The area is flat and has easy access all along the creek.  A great feature of this spot is that it sits behind a locked gate that SMPA members have access to.  There are also plenty of places to stay and eat in historical downtown Weaverville, just 5  minutes down the road.

Bull Dog & Chicks Place

Our closest claim to Redding in Shasta County, these sites sit just feet in some sections from the dirt road that runs adjacent to it.  Sections of the creek offer shade and easy access to the water.  French Gulch is just down the road where you can finish a day of mining with a bite and a cold drink.
